I just bought an old 4-star Super I am cleaning up to sell. Real nice, but horrible paint on sheet metal. It is a 1961 model and should have that M5 dark yellow paint. I believe it is darker than prarie gold. Is there a cheap color or mix that you can get? I was just going to use TSC prarie gold, but if it can be closer using something else, then I'd try.

I get it at Sherwin Williams. I get the codes off the MM site and have SW mix it. Works out well. That TSC paint is so thick, fades, and isn't the right color. Other than that, it's just fine.

How much per gallon? I'm just trying to avoid high cost on a grubby work tractor. Kevin Moschenrose works at Sherwin Williams.

I recall about $100/Gallon.

Whew! Maybe I will get some Agco paint. The dang TSC yellow is thick, but the color is so thin!!! I always have to put two to three coats of TSC pain to cover dark primer. $20 gal is attractive though.

Yellow is tough to cover with no matter who's paint is used. It's not like red or green. If you try to cover in one pass, it will run, doesn't matter if it's TSC, SW, or AGCO. I figure if I'm going to fight with it, the color might as well be right when I'm through. By the time I disassemble, sand blast, prime and sand, I don't like putting that dull TSC paint on. Just my thoughts

Agreed. I have used PPG paint where I used to work and painted a bit. It was charcoal metallic and some silver and black. I loved it. I have a few show tractors and pullers that should be painted correctly in the future. Many times I end up getting a tractor just to clean it up with a tune up, seat, tires, paint rims, etc. I try to keep the cost down when I can. This 4-star is a tight machine, but rather ugly! Our M5 is the dark yellow and looks great, but I think they did the brown as Dyna. I think it was a dealer paint job. Anyway, thanks for the imput. Curious, how long does it take the TSC to fade. Lots of people have mentioned this.

Left out in the intense sunlight we've had here in Michigan this year, in one day you'd see the difference. In a week, you'd be angry. Maybe if you can clear coat it or always keep in indoors it would be OK. The problem is most evident on my Special. The whole tractor except the hood was painted with good paint, the hood with TSC. The color isn't noticeably different but the hood does not shine like the rest of the tractor.

I agree I have a ztu that just sits in the shed with BPS paint with hardener and it turned chalky looking pretty quickly. I have a GTC with AGCO ONE paint (1989) the tractor hasn't been inside since and it just needs a little water and it shines like wet paint.

Ouch! That's a lot of work to have a piece fade so fast. Our UB centers we did yellow, but it stays inside all the time.
