Was the live pto option available for pre 1950 U's? I have located one on a U diesel and was wondering if it will fit a 1949 UTU.

It was a dealer installed option. I have an MM service bullitin on installing it. You have to remove the LH final drive as the brake shaft bearing carrier straddles the bull gear. I have a late 52 UTE that has the live pto and disk brake setup. It was available in mid 52 i believe, as it shows it in my June 52 owners manual.

the only one i knew of was the one on the axel i believ it was an option or an ad on seen a few.

Although I haven't seen any info on it, I'm pretty sure live pto could be added to older Us. I too have seen it on a '50 UTS. There was probably a dealer memo with a parts list and maybe even a kit.

I saw about a '50 UTS had the UB style disk brake/live pto clutch on the right side and it still carried the drum brake on the left.
