Beyond a certain point, the power steering doesn't work, or won't work properly.

The way this works is you set up that separator so the worm gear has .040 end play. And the finger thingy that rides in the groove in the collar on that shaft shouldn't have any play at all.
when you turn the steering wheel the gear moves in or out and it actually pulls the valve open in whichever direction you turn to put the oil to the correct piston for power assist.

They would have to be small round bales for a 335. Not really a big enough tractor for them. Front end is too light regardless.

You didn't say if it was row crop or utility. Some Utilities had very light front spindles. If your 335 has the heavy duty spindles it "might" be o.k. You can tell if yours has the heavy spindles by the hub cap (The cap you would take out if you remove the nut that keeps the hub on the spindle.) If it has the heavy spindles, the cap will be 2-1/2" or so in diameter. The hub itself will be almost straight.

If your hub caps are about than 2" dia. and the hub has a noticeable taper from where the wheel bolts on to the cap, its light duty.

You can change spindles, but it involves changing hubs, bearings, dust covers as well, and that could get pricey.

When I got my 335 it had one of each-I guess someone learned about the light spindles the hard way.

I have not been into these before, but I was told something about inserting a punch or rod and giving the finger a good smack to take up the wear and power steering will return to intstant response. My Jet 2 is a little doggy in PS response too. Makes steering during loader work a little slower.
