Push Rod Installation

I need help re-installing a push rod. The push rod was bent and came out just fine after backing off the adjusting screw on the rocker arm, but after straightening the rod there is no more room to install it. The adjusting screw has been backed off right to the ball and the valve spring is fully extended as the cam-follower is of the lobe.

I only need to gain 1/8" - 3/16" to install it and then adjust and tighten. What am I doing wrong!

This won't work in all cases, but if the rocker is held against the support with a spring, can you slide the rocker arm over? You can also just remove the rocker arm, just readjust your valve clearance when you put it back.

Try turning the engine over by using the fan,or by using a pipe wrench on the pto shaft. This will rotate the cam lobe down ,when the other valve on that cyl is compresed adjust valve clearance.do you know what caused the push rod to bend?

We just ended up loosening the shaft support, giving us the room we needed.

It turned out a stuck valve was the reason the push rod bent by the way.
