Does anyone have or know where I can get a Minneapolis Moline Z radiator casting. Seems like they have a casting on the bottom to hold the radiator and front sheet metal in place. Mine is missing. Looks like someone just put a couple of layers on 1/4 inch thick canvas or belting and just set the radiator on that. Only the hoses to hold it in place.

Eugene, Are you asking about the red-face ZT? IF so, the front sheet metal (Around the red grille hole) is bolted to the fan shroud, which is soldered directly to the radiator tanks. In other words, the radiator bolts into the front sheet metal.
The front sheet metal is then secured to the front pedestal by 5 (OR is it 7?) bolts, 3 in front of the radiator and 2 behind, just ahead of the fan. These same bolts also hold the 1/4" plate cover that covers the steering gears in the front pedestal if it is a type E, U or N. If your ZT is standard tread, it doesn't have that 1/4" plate.
Lots of times the bottom piece of the front sheet metal is completely rusted away. It is only 16 guage sheet.
I had to make a new piece and weld it to the rest of the trim when I fixed my '38 ZTU.

Not sure if it is a 'red faced ZT'. It was faded prairie gold when I got it.

Thanks for the reply. There is a 1/4 plate over the steering gears on the front pedistal. This plate is tapped for 5 bolts. One in the very front, two back about the middle and two all the way in back near the engine. The fan shroud does have two reliefs cut into it to get access to those two bolts. The plate is bolted on by its own bolts.

I looked at some Z's at the Almelund, MN tractor show last weekend and they seemed to have some sort of casting under the radiastor.

I'll try to get a photo of it

Thanks again Gene

What I mean by Red Face is the front cowl has a sort of oval hole that a screen-like piece goes into. The screen has rectangular slots about 1" long, vertically. The screen is usually painted red, hence I referred to it as "Red Face".

Is there any chance you could e-mail me a picture of your tractor?

If you are certain your tractor should have a casting under the radiator, it sounds like your tractor is what we refer to as a ZA, even though your serial tag may say Z on it.

A ZA radiator will have cast iron top and bottom tanks and the core bolts to them. the grille is made of horizontal bars, in 2 sections that wrap around both sides of the radiator core and bolt to the 2 tanks. The fan shroud bolts to the back side of the top and bottom tanks. The bottom tank is also the cover over the steering gear.

I am starting to wonder if your tractor has an unusual combination of radiator and grille parts.

I think I under stand what you mean by 'red faced'.

Mine is more like the 'ZA' you described. The main part of the grille is two pieces that bolts together in the middle. The top is a pretty heavy duty (not cast) piece that just slides down over the top of the radiator tank. The fan shroud bolts on the back to hold it together. As I said before, the radiator is just slide into the center of that and the whole thing was just standing on the front pedestal.

I will get some pictures this coming weekend. Maybe that would help make some sense of this thing.

Try Alan K from this message board. The guy is great to get parts from. Last time I talked to him he had a complete radiator. Good Luck.

Yes there is a steel plate under the radiator. When you remove it you gain access to the steering gear.

Eugene, I have a couple of Z's for parts. I probably have what you need. I was at the Almelund show this weekend so i would think were not to far apart.

I am interested to look at what you have. Where are you located? I have the tractor up at Sandstone, MN.

Are you going to the 'White Pines' show over the labor day weekend? I plan to have the 'Minnie' Z there for that show. Also will show a VA Case.
