could anyone tellme how to remove from the block The pin( about 1/2" in dia) that is in the block . The pin is the hinge or swivel point for metal tab that drops down to engage the parking brake

I got your e-mail. I stand corrected. the pin is bent. I think that pin is a press fit in the case, but I don't know.

For what its worth, I suggest trying to straighten that pin while its in the case. I guess there is a possibility of cracking the case, or breaking the pin, but If it was in there when it bent before, you'll probably be O.K.

Perhaps put a pipe over it so you won't mar the finish and so you can controll where it bends. A little heat at the bend area wouldn't hurt either.

These are just suggestions, take them for what they are worth.

Sometimes even on a 'puller' it is desirable to be able to lock the brakes, as in when loading it on a trailer?. I don't think the weight savings outweigh the risks associated from removing the park brake from the machine.

I have a good running '67 jetstar that at one time a $600 junker because somebody thought the park brake was optional equipment and it rolled into a pond.
