I am in the final throes of restoring he "47 UTS and was a bit bummed when I was installing the gauges that I had purchased. The temperature gauge, which was advertised as fitting "U" MMs had a capillary tube that was 40 inches long but well short of being long enough to get from the dash to where the port is on the return coolant tube.

What"s the deal?? did I buy the wrong unit? Where can I get one that will fit??

Hoot,
I've heard of this a couple times now with the cheaper MM gauges that have recently come on the market. They're not long enough for the U tractor. A friend of mine ran into this on a UB diesel and had to send all 3 gauges back and buy the more expensive versions with the longer temp lead in order for all the gauge faces to match. I believe Antique Gauges out of Maryland makes a temp gauge with a long enough lead. I don't have their # handy. You could also try some of the MM parts people like Welter's in Missouri 417-498-6496.

I've got a '50 UTS/LP, that temp gauge would work on mine, the temp gauge mounts in its own single gauge holder on the trans cover as does the oil pressure gauge.
