I need help guys. I am restoring my 51 za. I have a ton of excessive shifter twist and slop. Will not go into the gears all that well. Was thinking about taking out and welding both sides of the shifter ball. Or should I try to replace the pin? The pin looks like it may not come out. Will it? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!

On a ZAS I worked on, I welded the ball (The groove was worn) and I also replaced the pin. I got a new grooved pin from my JOhn Deere dealer, and cut it to fit.

Yes the pin will come out, it did on mine anyway. I took mine out and turned it 1/4 turn. This will make a big difference. You may have excessive wear on the end of the shift lever also. May have to build that up if the other doesn"t solve the problem.
