ZA RADIATOR BUBBLES

Help me out guys.I have done a total resto on my 50 zau. Problem is that I have bubbles in my radiator. Checked my compression and I have 120 lbs in each cylinder.But I do have a leaking waterpump "front seal".Nor do I have the thermostat in.But I have also heard of the waterpump baffle having a couple if small holes in it causing this problem also. Any suggestions?

Likely from excessive flow due to no thermostat. The one you get at NAPA will need to have a 1/8" bypass hole drilled prior to installation. If you don't do that it will puke out the overflow tube when the thermostat opens.

I have a 48 ZTU. I have had the same trouble a couple of times. I once had trouble with the baffel plate in the water pump. That will sure do it if it"s rusted away. You also need a thermostat to slow the water down going through the radiator. Just last month when I was using my old girl to spray some beans I had a radator full of foam. I back flushed the radator and replaced the thermostat then refilled with 50/50 water and antifreeze mix and the problem went away. I hope this will give you some ideas and a couple of things to look at. A leaking head gasket will do it also, but you should see some water in the oil or a wet spark plug on the cylinder that is leaking if that"s the case. Sam

Yes that is possible with the baffle plate. I had coolant coming out of the radiator cap on my '52 ZA. I believe on mine I must have had a chunk of rust that broke loose in the head and floated in front of the hole by the radiator hose going to the thermostat because my gauge would go towards the hot area and then go back to cold in a matter of a minute or two.
