MM Tractors - how does it compare to others?

I'm looking for a tractor to use around the yard and just couldn't justify spending a lot on new "kubota" tractors.

Is it a good option to go for these older tractors?

I want to be able to do some mowing, snow removal, dirt moving, etc.

Are parts for Jetstar 3s easily found?

Thanks for any help.

Patrick:
I have a couple of MM's and have always had a fondness for them. Yes, they could easily do you a good job. However, parts can be more difficult to get, and less are going to be available in the future, since they were basically discontinued. AGCO owns the name and services some parts, filters etc, but it is a long way from being complete. It's a great and unique tractor line, but be aware that finding some parts could be a challenge and potentially more expensive than with other tractors which were built in greater numbers. If you can buy a "complete" and good running tractor for a reasonable price, go for it.

I know nothing about the Jet Star 3,however I Have 6 Minnies and 11 tractors of other Mfg. I like the other brands. My favorite for your type jobs are my two MM 435 s.They have 35 hp but seem to have more torque than others of same hp. I am judging that by the job the do hooked up to my Woods twin spindle 80 inch mower. They have live pto, power steering, torque amplifier, which gives me 8 speeds, live hyd.The Tq.Amp allows you to shift on the go in what ever gear you are in without clutching. In othere words hi -lo range in each gear. I got my first 435 in 1964 and have used it as my principal mowing, raking, square bale tractor thru most of those years.I can get parts.I am not faulting any other brand.I like everthing else I own but sure am stuck on Minne Mo"s

Thanks. I believe I've decided I'm going to get the tractor.

I've looked at the smaller tractors but decided it would be small for what I wanted to do.

they were mostly row cropers and may not be the best for what you want but will do it. try one out and then the others and you will know i have 2 but use them for farming.

Love my Minnies but use an Oliver 550 for the stuff you want to do. 6 speed forward, 2 reverse, live PTO, live 3 point, live hydraulics. Never has a problem getting parts. Much better and more versatile than Ford 8N/9N's. Just my 2 cents worth.

So why not use the minnies? Is it because of parts sourcing?

I don't believe a Moline would be the best for your jobs. A Ford with a front loader would be better. Just my experience with both Tractors.

I'm partial to Fords and olivers, but I do use my brothers JetStar3 as a backup for my Oliver 1800 doing hay work and bush-hogging when I have my 871 ford tied up doing something else. The JetStar is a good tractor with power steering and it's Torque amp. (Just remember to leave the torque lever forward until the tractor has warmed up to prevent damage to the torque unit)
