A little over a week ago I was slowly traveling past a property where trucks are salvaged out. Setting in the yard near the roadway was a Minneapolis Moline "A5". Since I had never heard of an A5 I was really curious, especially since it looked very much like a 670. I was sure that I hadn't just misread the designation.

Sure enough on the return trip I did indeed see the "A5" designation in bold lettering.

This week I went passed the place again. With my interest piqued I naturally I looked at the tractor and designation once more. With a little egg on my face I report to you that it was indeed a model 670. However I had indeed also see an A5 designation on it as well. I suspect it was a county mowing tractor designated as unit A5.

Thought you might get a laugh at my expense.

I went to look at a Minneapolis Moline G 706 Diesel with 3 pt. The guy kept calling it a 706. This should have been my first clue. A 2-hour drive got me to a place that Columbus couldn't have found. Sure enough, there set a G 705 Moline (I use the term loosely) complete with parts off an IHC 706. Someone had tried to make the G705 into a rowcrop by adding the adjustable front axle and 2 pt. hitch from the IHC. The heads were missing, he forgot to mention that. He did put the IHC 706 emblems on the front of the 705 to make it look better. Good thing it wasn't along a road somewhere, it would have caused innumerable wrecks. Sometimes it takes several "drive bys" just to figure out what some things are.
