Shaving an M5 head down, how much will it help?

I have an M5 gas that had a blowed head gasket, while I have it apart I am going to knock the heads down an 1/8 of an inch. I was wondering if this will give it as much compression as a set of LP heads or not and about how much HP I should expect to gain. Thanks

You"re not telling us much here about what your objectives are with this tractor, but I presume you"re planning on pulling it, right? If so, while these heads are off, there many other ways of building USUABLE pulling power. Pulling requires Usable pulling power to get past your competitors. Between Doug and myself we have combined 54 years of pulling experience, and high compression alone ain"t gonna get er done. Dale

I apologize for not answering sooner, been real busy at the shop and our pulling season started last weekend with 2 events and we"re preparing for Tomah at this moment. To get usuable pulling power on a N.A., stock rpm tractor, you have to make those cylinders vacuum every ounce of fuel and air(oxygen) you can direct to them. Maximize the flow capabilities completely, keep the fuel-air(oxygen) in the cylinder as long as possible while developing a loooong, slooow explosion and you are on the way to real usuable pulling power. There are innumerable ways to accomplish this goal. Keep these basics in mind and let your imagination run wild and it can be more fun building than driving, well maybe.
