UT DIESEL INFO PLEASE

ON A 1956 UT DIESEL, HAS NO COIL, DIST OR PLUGS. INSTEAD THERE IS A UNIT THAT LOOKS LIKE A COIL ON ITS SIDE MOUNTED ON TOP AT THE FRONT OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. THIS UNIT HAS THREE TERMINALS (IF YOU TREAT ONE AS THE NUT THAT HOLDS THE CAP ON)ONE APPEARS TO GO TO THE HEATER PLUG; ONE TO GROUND; POWER TO THIS APPEARS TO COME FROM AN IGNITION SWITCH MOUNTED ON A SEPERATE PANEL NEAR THE STEERING COLUMN WITH THE SWITCH TURNED ON IT MUST ALLOW HEAT FROM THE COIL UNIT TO HEAT A GLOW PLUG WHICH IN TURN HEATS THE DIESEL WHICH IS PUMPED DURING THE START SEQUENCE INTO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AT THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE. WOULD SOMEONE HAVE A DIAGRAM OF HOW ALL OF THIS IS WIRED FOR THE DIESEL I ONLY HAVE A DIAGRAM FOR THE GAS OR PROPANE TRACTOR. KEVIN, KELVIN, ANYONE? THANKS!STEVE

I have no experience with these so we really need a second opinion, but the '54 UTS diesel I had had one. I'm thinking its a basic ignition circuit. There should be a priming pump beside the ignition switch. I'm thinking you prime it 2,3,4 shots, then hit the starter button. The spark plug lights the fuel (Its a basic ignition circuit-coil, plug, starter button in place of points) which when you crank the engine over, it pulls the fire/heated air mix into the cylinder which helps the engine with cold weather starting.

KELVIN, THERE WAS A BREAKDOWN DIAGRAM SENT TO ME FROM A FINE FELLOW IN CANADA. AND THERE WAS ALSO ONE VERY SIMILAR IN MY GB PARTS MANUAL. I DIDN'T CROSS REFERENCE PART NUMBERS BUT I BELIEVE IT WAS THE VERY SAME. I AM GUESSING HOWEVER THAT THE STARTING INSTRUCTIONS YOU PROVIDED WOULD BE FOUND IN AN OPERATORS MANUAL FOR THE DIESEL WHICH I DIDN'T HAVE.
