I plan on putting a G crank off set ground to fit my U rods ..With the m5 blocks bored to 4.81..I bought a G power unit motor..I was told that the cam gear and the crank gear were diffrent on the G than on the U..I checked the casting #s on both sets and they are the same...ke 452....70 teeth.Crank gear has no #s but has same ammount of teeth on both gears....35.Also crank gears will interchange without welding a sleeve in the G gear..This is totally diff than I was told...Am I missing somthing here? Please explain..Here is question thats probably more up every ones alley..The cam #s on my U cam are KE 451 G and the cam #s on the G cam are KE 451 H, whats the diff between the two and what am I betteroff using?? SORRY so long winded Steve

Steve in a nutshell if ypu are going to use the front cover that is on a old 283 or 403 then you use the 35 to 70 tooth gears, If you use the later UB special, 5Star, M5 etc. front cover then you will need the 36 to 72 combination, In other words if you have a bolt on waterpump then you will need a bushing inside a 36 tooth gear to make it tight on a 403 crankshaft.
This was done for parts commanality between 4 and 6 cylinder engines and gets even more involved with the use of magnetos.

I you want to run a G crank in a M5 or 670 style cover you get a crank gear from a small nose 605 or the old 425 power unit it fits right on the crank and has the right number of teeth. If you are useing the U front cover just use the G crank and cam gears that are in the power unit.
