Has anyone used a MM to power a belly mower? If so, which model tractor and mower? I read in the archives about someone seeing a ZAU with a Woods belly mower, utilizing the cultivator brackets. That would be odd with a hand clutch, but would work. What about the Avery-model tractors? Which ones of those would work?

My 2cents: About any of the smaller MMs should work O.K. with a belly mower, provided you understand you will have to fabricate your own mounting brackets and drive. I've toying with the idea of one on an RTU. Remember that until the 335 and 445 were introduced no MMs had true live power. so the old ones stop when you release the clutch. also, seems like you would need overrun protection to be certain that the mower's momentum couldn't push the tractor when the clutch is released.
I would think a BF or BG would work well with a mower. I don't know what the minimum wheel spacing is for the BF. The BG can go down to about 48", center to center. The lift 'roll' is mid mounted, on both so it would be ideal for raising a mid-mount mower.

Hey Kelvin!

Which one of those two were an offset tractor? Thinking it was the BG..... Would that show any problems besides feeling awkwards? LOL, never been on an offset tractor. What about the V model, or the A (think there is an A)? I'm not too up on the MM Avery line. We've got a Woods belly mower on a Farmall H at this time and it seems to work good, although it's plenty heavy of a tractor for the job. Just curious what would work the best in the MM line.

The V at about 9 hp would be underpowered. The Avery A was the forerunner of the MM BF. The BG is offset. They all are good tractors, just awkward about getting on and off.

Would a 4 Star work with a belly mower? Those Avery's are probably nice, but now that I think of it I have plans of a 4 Star in the future hopefully.

Say, were you the one that was trying to get a diesel tractor going on the other MM forum? Thinking it was either you or Moshy.....

Yes I was having trouble with that jet2 diesel. and with everyone's help I got to hear it run. About 1/2 the exhaust comes out the crankcase breather, so its a goner, as oversize diesel pistons are either unavailable or else its a deep dark secret where to get them, or else I'd have to rob a bank to pay for them.
I would think a 335 utility or 445 utility either one should make a belly mower tractor. Maybe go for small, wheels and set the tread in as narrow as it would go. Probably you would have to rig up your own lift for the mower.

Did MM ever make any actual belly mowers (not the belly-mounted sickle mowers)?

I have seen several 335's with heavy duty belly mowers. I think they are former hwy dept. road ditch mowers. I am currently making a three point mower out of a toro 84" five blade deck. I'm planning on using my 5 star to run it. I was going to belly mount it but decided to go three point for simplicity and the ability to raise it high for tall grass.
