I have a 1949 UT that is missing it's light switch and thus its generator control. I need to find out how much resistance is needed in the generator's field circut to keep from overcharging the battery, or where I could find a replacment light switch?

I'm thinking that your '49 generator should have a 2-element regulator. The regulator should be able to operate on its own, without outside resistance in the circuit.

If by chance your generator has a single coil in its regulator, (A cutout) it then must have an outside resistance in the circuit. If you're just showing it, with a short parade once in a while, I think you might be O.K. without a resistor-At least thats how I have my ZTU wired and its given no problems.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if I could just replace the cutout with a 2-element regulator without modifying the generator? I'm planning to work the tractor on a limited basis so I need the charging system to be functional.

I'm not sure. I think some can be converted to regulator and some can't and I don't know how to tell the difference.
