UTU freeze plug

Got a '41 UTU from a gentleman who had started to rebuild. Said it was pretty much ready to but needed a freeze plug. Can't find this in manuals anywhere - would appreciate any help as to what/where/how?

Could a faulty freeze plug cause antifreeze to leak in cylinder #2? Would the freeze plug "break" if the block froze? Thanks in advance.

Freeze plugs are those round plugs in the cylinder blocks and in the heads. I always get mine from NAPA (They have them in their PAPER catalog.) At the very least replacd the plugs between the blocks and heads. If they leak you will have to pull the part off to fix it.

I use the soft plugs easyer to put in and if they come out less likely to crack the block. Only bad part is they don't look as good

What is a "soft" plug? I thought there was just one kind. Yes, replace them all when you have the engine apart. Once I had to tear down an "R" just to replace one leaky 22 cent frost plug.

A soft plug is one with a rubber part and a bolt you tighten down. Very easy to install and also if you need to remove again.

Freeze plugs are in the water jacket somewhere. You'll just have to find which one needs replacing, your NAPA store should be able to find them for you. They usually rust out from the inside.

I would replace all of them if the blocks are off. They are about the cheepest repair on a tractor but hard to get at if its the one between the two blocks.
