I am considering the purchase of a Model V, BF Avery. The tractor is in good mechanical condition, a new coat of paint and it would look great. Are there any problem areas associated with this model, or unique things to look for? Any idea of a fair price for both seller and purchaser would be appreciated.

Mother purchased a MM V (It was stuck at the time) that seems to be in pretty good condition. Kinda awkward to get on and off of, though. And I don't know who designed those park brakes, you about have to bend double to reach them. We did have to replace some transmission bearings-The input shaft turns on ball bearings and they were pretty well worn. A Farmall cub is about the same size and its input shaft runs in roller bearings.
Seems to be a pretty good tractor, overall.

I worked on another V last Summer. It had governor issues that took a while to figure out. I mean it took a while to figure a way around worn parts and figure out I had the wrong governor spring on the tractor in the first place, since the I&T manual isn't much help on the governor. The biggest problem with that V was that it was prone to hang up in 2 gears. If yours is driveable, I would be sure to check out the transmission.
