Tractor Quits After 20 seconds

I have been battling with this for 2 years. I have a 1969 MM M670 Super gasoline tractor. First, tractor would not run smoothly when placed under load. Some of the fixes called for cleaning fuel tank, filter, fuel lines & carburator. This has all been done. Some of the fixes called for a new coil, points, condenser, spark plugs. This has all been done. Carburator removed, cleaned and new kit replaced. After putting the carburator back on, I now have the following problem: The tractor will start right up, ONLY as long as I have the choke pulled all the way out (closed)and the throttle more than half-way open. Try to push the choke in, it dies immediately. Leave the choke pulled out, the tractor runs for approximately 15-20 seconds, then dies. It sputters to a stop, but does so quickly. I can repeat this procedure over and over. When I am finished, gasoline is running out of the bottom of the carburator! For those 20 seconds, that tractor sounds GREAT, but it just doesn't last. I have adjusted the carburator until I am blue in the face, nothing works. I have now put two different coils on, both with the same results.

I know I have posted this question previously, but I am not having any luck with the suggestions that have been made. I am open to ALL suggestions and welcome your thoughts. This is driving me absolutely CRAZY! Please help!!

I had a similar mystery the other day with the neighbor's Super H. I had plenty of flow to and through the carb but it would only run with the choke closed. That carb has an adjustable main jet which I opened up with no luck. Even removed the adjustment needle and had plenty of fuel. Finally took the carb apart and though I did not really see it, I must have had a clog in the main fuel discharge tube. Verified the tube's cleanliness and the ploblem was solved. Keep us posted.

I suspect you still have a problem with the carb.
I would first eliminate the ignition system as the problem by turning off the gasoline and starting it by spraying starting fluid in the front of he carb. If it keeps running as you spray small amounts of starting fluid at the carb, I would say the problem is in the fuel supply or the carb itself. You wouldn't be the first person to have to go over a carb more than once.
With the fuel off, drain the carb by removing the plug on the bottom of the bowl. Then turn the fuel on. A steady stream of fuel should flow from the drain plug. If it doesn't, Check that it does flow a steady stream where the fuel line goes into the carb. If it does, something in the carb is resrticted. Another thought is that the fuel level in the carb is set too low, but since it runs from the carb, that may not be the case unless choking it so much is what is causing that to happen. John

Could it be a restricted exhaust? Plugged muffler maybe. Just a thought.

Does the float have a hole in it?

My 670 will not start unless the throtle is off and I must choke it continually until it starts.

Went thru every thing you did on mine. Our timing was off. Just try to isolate the problem. Sounds like the fuel system. We needed dry gas all winter on the gas tractors here in Ohio.

Different motor (Perkins diesel) stopped in the manure pit. I spent all winter dragging it around. Completely went thru the fuel system and etc. The problem was dirt in the fuel return system. So simple, but I spent many hours redoing every thing. Good luck.
