proper color for lug bolts on an RTU

Wheels are red; I'm assuming tha the lug bolts should be red too, but I've seen some with PG lug bolts. What's proper? Or isn't there a "proper?"

I don't see plated fasteners showing up on MMs until the 60's. Either that's when plating became popular or I guess that extra fraction of a cent wasn't considered worthwhile. I usually paint my lug bolts red, they usually get scuffed when in put the wheels on, so i don't have to be really careful when I touch up their paint.

Dave,
Proper is difficult to identify for Moline. They had a tendency to paint things different colors depending on the day. Especially things like PTO shields and seats. I typically paint the lug bolts dull silver to simulate the galvanized coating of a new bolt. My thought is that the operator installing the wheel on the assembly line probably just grabbed a handful of new bolts from a box and that they were probably not painted. The bottom line is that its your tractor so paint them anyway you like as long as you're happy with the results. If you don't like the dull silver look then I'd probably paint them Prairie Gold just to set them off to the red rim color. Just my 2 cents Dave.
