u 302 bearing replacement

can the rear main bearing on u302 be changed without removing crank? the manual shows a flange that goes on the crank, then bolts to the back of the block. it shows a cap that bolts down holds the bearing. can you get the cap off, and roll new bearings in from inside the crankcase? the oil pressure is very low, and thought about replacing bearings, but the rear bearing might be a problem.

I have done it on a U302. It is just about like the 206's of the same design.

I've not done a 302 but I have done a 4 star which I think is of the same design. As I recall, the rear main bolts are vertical with bolt heads to the top side. Makes you think it impossible without removing the heads and jugs, BUT, with a deep offset box end wrench, it can be done. You have to somewhat of a contortionist to do it but it can be done. You can forget about torquing them down after bearing replacement; there's no way to get a torque wrench on them, just get them real tight.

thank you for the help. i thought it my be possible to get to the rear main without stripping the tractor. tractor has front end loader, so it would be a real pita. i"ll take the side cover off and take a look inside and see what i"m in for.
