I am having a couple of hydraulic problems with my 65 M670. The first one is a leak at the filter, it appears that someone replace the ell between the reservoir and the filter with a piece of hose which leaks like a siv. What was originally between the reservoir and the filter?

The second problem is with the steering. I am able to turn right fairly easily but turning left is difficult. When I bought the tractor a couple of months ago someone had disconnect the steering cylinder on the left side which I have reconnected. Anyone have any experience with this kind of problem.

I think part of my problem with the steering is the weights on the front of the tractor, it has 3 front weights. I am planning on using this tractor for mowing with a 5' shredder and pulling a 3pt blade. I would be interested in any ones suggestions on how much weight I need on front of this tractor for those tasks with out having light front problems.

Thanks in advance for all your help on this problem.

Beginning at the back of the filter, there is an elbow (MPT to Male flare), a steel tube with a nut on the filter end & shaped like an "L" with both legs about the same length. There should be a short rubber elbow between the back of this tube and a short length of pipe that is screwed into the resevoir.

I assume your 670 has a steering shaft and control valve mounted where the shaft goes into the front casting? Since one side had been disconnected, I assume that either it was causing the steering to want to turn one direction by itself or the cylinder was leaking oil from that side into the front casting. Assuming that it was wanting to turn one way by itself, the control valve likely needs adjusted and/or there is too much wear on the pin that actuates the control valve. Follow the adjustment procedure in an I&T manual & if it turns to hard both ways then, you will either have to replace the actuator pin (if you can find a new one) or build it up & file it down to make it fit properly.

The weights on the front should not be a problem. They were designed to work with weights on them. Neither a 5 foot cutter nor a smaller blade should require any weights on a M670 but they won't hurt anything either.

John
