I have a 17-30 B serial#8189.How many made, years made. Whats it worth it in fair to good shape stuck all there.Any sites about this tractor. Thank for your help Wolfe

I have 2 27-42s same tractor bigger engine, have located a ,copy of parts manuel,not much help but looking at serial num.in it makes me think yours is a late model,Iunderstand these tractors were sold up till 1934,way after the companys when together to form MM,they were left over stock,even MM had a tractor at almost same rating.Theres a good pic of one in tractor photos this site listed as 1928 17-30 type B ,owner Ron Yoder I tried to get up with him no luck. I really can not find anyone who knows much about these tractors or is willing to share info,Iwould love to have a copy of an operators manuel. I unhide my e-mail if ican help any more .David

My books don't go back that far for serial numbers and production. It was tested in March 1921 at Nebraska. It developed 19.69 hp on the drawbar and 31.95 hp on the belt. Tractor weight was 6000#. Bore and stroke were 4.75 x 7.

The Minneapolis 17-30 first appeared in 1921. In about 1925, the cylinder bore was increased from 4.75 inch to 4.875 inch and the the front frame lengthened about a foot. These were called 17-30 Type B. They continued building the original 17-30 and called that the 17-30 Type A. In about 1929 the 27-42 appeared. This had the same size engine as the 17-30 Type B but they used high compression heads, different pistons, a gasoline manifold, and the engine speed was increased 100 RPM to 925 RPM; these were gasoline burning engines only, whereas the 17-30 models were designed to burn kerosene. They were still building all three of these models in 1930. I have a reprint of a 1930 sales brochure showing this. I also have a parts book from 1930 showing the differences in the three models. I also have an operators manual and lubrication chart. You may be able to find literature at swap meets and toy shows, that is where I found mine. I have a 17-30 Type B that I bought two years ago at auction for $2750. It did not run but it was loose, mostly complete, and partially restored. I got it running without to much trouble. The serial no. of my tractor is 6455, was told it was a 1927 model. My research shows that it maybe a 1926. I have seen them in the 9,000 range, I am guessing that 10,000 of the three models combined were built.
