What is the difference between a ub and a ub special?

The sales literature shows a major difference was that the front end was redesigned on the UB Special so that all the front axle arrangements were readily interchangeable. Apparently they all used the same bolt pattern and mounting surface. I believe power steering was also included in this upgrade, but I'm not entirely sure about this last item. The UB literature I have does not show any power steering, however it may have been offered in later models. The UB Special literature does show power steering.

UBs and UB specials had the same 'live' pto. It stopped the ground drive, but the transmission was still turning. Actual live pto didn't come out in that size MM tractor until the introduction of the 5star.

The UB specials did have optional power steering. Some UB specials didn't actually have the power steering installed, however. The front bolster was different to accommodate the power steering equipment.

The grille shell on the UB special was also updated to match the GB and ZB tractors.
