I recently purchased what I believe is a jet-star or model 445. Could someone help me do a better job Identifing the machine....and where I might I find a real good detailed repair manual????

Also along with what John said and you can"t read the plate or it is missing another sure fire way to tell the two apart is that the 445 will have the big cast irom cross in the middle of the grill with two flat grill screens one on each side, where as the jetstar will have a one piece wavy screen with a small cast iron piece at the top that has the words of course Minneapolis Moline on it. The jetstar will also have a hood latch handle on the left side to open the hood with and the 445 will have a latch in the front just under the nose of the hood.

Kevin, I don't know if you know about this but a few 445s were shipped with the 4star grille & hood latch arrangement. I have one & a friend of mine has one. The dealer that took delivery on them remembers them coming in looking odd. He contacted MM they told him it was an option for people putting old narrow loaders on them because the headlites are in the grille.

Here is a tractor that the owner claimed was a 445 but has a 4 Star grill. Can not say for certain if it is a 445 or 4 Star without a serial number.

One thing to look at that should make it 445. Is steering wheel will be close to main support casting about 4"to5" off it. 4star should be twice as tall.This should be the way to tell.But I am not 100% sure.So don`t write it in stone.

Humm interesting? But with as hard as it is to prove one way or the other on these tractors who can really say yes or no to a tractor outside of the normal ads and build sheets and parts books on it. I know they built special application tractors from time to time but I would just like to see the papers from the plant on it is all. I seen a GTC once and it was not the normal GTC it was a "cane" GTC they said, but it had a home made front axle and drop boxes for the rear from a UTC and said it was from the factory???. Come on give me a break. Because they start to use that all famous word "rare". MM records are are not easy to find or are gone, on alot of their build sheets from the factorys. How ever they did find some good stuff in Charles City Ia. and can't wait to see it. I am not tring to debate you just like to see paperwork proof is all. Ebay is a fine example of "rare" and "one of a kind" tagged on this stuff and it could be a down fall to collecting. I am sure this will cause a great big discussion and I will be bombed with pros and cons on the emails. But everybody is intitled to an opinon and I would like to see a picture of yours. Everything MM did was very interesting. I have two M602 LPs bought new by Del Monte Foods. They have consecutive s/n but are quite different. One has headlites on side of grille,with clamshell fenders, the other has the square Super 670 type fenders with headlites in them. Both are set up for 3 point but no arms or linkage. Looks to me like if visited the factory you could mismatch & buy whatever you wanted.

Didn't I see somewhere that Delmonte was closely tied to MM and did some prototype evaluations - might explain those one of a kinds -

Though I agree lots of those unique rare tractors may be homebuilt - just saw a 53 GTC (by chassis s/n) with cane tires and a 403 LP engine - but engine s/n was the giveaway - s/n sequence indicated a much later GB 56 to 57 as best I could figure - if it had been an early 54, I might have believed.
