Do any of you have any experience with the blasting cabinet that is continually advertised in a full-page ad in the Antique Power magazine every other month? I would be interested in any comments about this product, good and bad. It is sold by TP Tools & Equipment. I look forward to your responses.

I have had a TP 960 for two years. It's a nice cabinet. I was using the cabinet in a humid environment and had trouble with media flowing to the bottom of the cabinet. I rigged up a washing machine motor and eccentric as a "poor mans" vibrator and it works like a charm. I quickly went through four ceramic nozzles. The carbide nozzles last ten times as long, and are the only way to go. I've found that I empty the vacuum system pretty frequently to keep the dust down in the cabinet. My glass is beginning to fog up as well. Thanks for the tip about the screen, wild man. When I replace the glass, I may give it a try.

I do wish my compressor was bigger. Mine is only single stage 13.6cfm, and the cabinet uses more air than my compressor can deliver. I need to take a break after about 15 minutes to let the compressor recharge.

Dale

I don't have any experience with that particular blast cabinet but I bought one from Homier when they were in our area several years ago. They have a website at www.homier.com.

The cabinet is the same or at least very similar to the ones I see advertised several other places.
It is a floor model with about 2x2x3 work area with the door on the left side & a small trap door at the bottom to remove the media.

It doesn't come with a dust system so I use an old shop vac. The blast gun & hoses are not very good quality & the light is a joke but the cabinet works fine. Just make sure to put RTV on the joints when putting it together. I didn't use the blast gun or hoses but put in different ones that work well. Hoses are more flexible & gun is from a blast tank like JC Whitney sells.

The best part is the whole unit was only $99.00, which I figured was a very good price for just the cabinet.

Does anyone have any secrets to keeping the window clear so you can see better?

John

John there are two was of keeping you window in good shape. 1-is to use a piece of screen in front of the window with spacers holding it away about 1\2 in that will keep the media from scaring the window. 2- grainger industrial sells a film that goes in front of the window that fogs up and you only have to change it not the window. Also try getting a piece of lexan to use it is more resistant to scraches.

Thank you for your reply. Think I'll try the screen & see how it works.

By the way, my door is on the right not the left, sorry for the error.

John

I can tell you the next blaster cabinet I buy will be one with a steep sloped hopper unlike the popular tool truck brand I now own. also a side door would work the best if you have the wall space.

I have one, a Model 960 I think. I love it. I do think that they are a little pricey but for sandblasting small parts, it's great. Be sure to have enough compressor. The dust collector may be a bit weak. The motor in mine died and a new one is expensive; I use my shop vac now. I've had mine for several years. Be happy to further discuss.
