hey i own a 1967 g1000 vista diesel would like to know how to get atleast 35 to 50 more horsepower out of engine without a great deal of machine work understand turning pump up will only get me about 10 or 15 more any ideals come on moline guys tell me something this is the only moline i own

You are asking for 160 to 170 hp at 1800. The cheapest thing you can do is take 10 of your crisp Ben Franklins and light them on fire and forget it. It takes major bucks to do what you are thinking.

Look for a turbo and manifold. They are hard to find. But will easily do what you ask. Uesd to farm with one like that.

Speaking of turbos, I remember when I was going to vo-tech I was looking through some of the MM service /shop manuals and ran across one that mentioned using a turbo on larger MM tractors which was only to restore it to original hp not to increase it...? That one puzzled me.

Alan,
I've got a copy of the MM install instructions for the 504 turbo kit. Its was meant to compensate for tractors being run at higher altitudes only. It assured a dense enough air charge was being delivered to the cylinder in order to efficiently burn the diesel fuel.

You hit the nail on the head. This was called a "normalizing" turbo. This allowed you to maintain bhp at higher altitudes without just making a lot of black smoke . Did nothing at at 1500 feet or lower, just went along for the ride. You could install a smaller turbine hsg which could give you some boost atlow altitudes, but the Lanova energy cell is a poor combustion system to turbocharge

I believe you are mis-informed about lower altitudes. Think about it. The atmospheric pressure is greater at lower altitudes, therefore the turbo or altitude compensator or "normalizing" turbo (these terms all mean the same thing) would have denser air to charge the engine at lower altitudes. A turbo would therefore create a higher boost pressure on the same engine running at a lower altitude than the same engine running at a higher altitude. Higher boost generally means more power.

Yes the air is denser but the turbo runs slower, therefore boost is low. On a normalizing turbo the elements are chosen to minimize boost at low altitudes. They want/need the boost at high altitudes. Lower exhaust temps are also a factor. A smaller turbine hsg, would speed up the turbo and give more boost at low altitudes. Now, If you increase the fuel going to the engine this is another issue. Yes, you will get boost and more power, because exhaust temps go up and spin the turbo faster. But, one would get more power anyway with more fuel up to a certain point it's just a lot of smoke comes with it. The main point I am trying to make is that choosing a "normalizing" turbo configuration for increasing power at lower altitudes is not very effective. Much better turbo matches are available for producing power

Remember, it's man made. The rearend will bust. Haven't you heard all of those stories about the G1000's? People trying to do more work at one time than they should. Doesn't lead to good things.

Guys, let those poor 1000's have a deserved, respectful retirement. Go get yourselves a CASE 504 TURBO and put it in a non powershift CASE tractor. You are going to end up with more bang for the buck and a plentiful supply of replacement blocks. Case went to direct injection(they used to use the Lanova system too) because when you turbocharge, the cylinder pressures get too high for the injector to properly shoot the fuel into the power cell. I used to have a pair of 2290's, and they dynoed 155 horse without so much as even touching the pump. (which incidently is an inline Bosch)

NOW....I love Molines as much as anyone; but it's time for a reality check.

The 585 was going to be the new engine to put the competition in place; and very well could have had it not been for the corporate situation which hurt it.(being sent to be built a a factory which had never built an engine)...Charles City

I need to break for now, more on this later.
