M-5 Torque problems

I bought a M5 diesel last summer. Got it with several other MMs so didn't pay much for it. Engine was stuck, sitting outside, no cap. Torque lever was fastened in the forward position. When we loaded it, we put it in gear and no drag at all. I'm thinking the old boy that had it drove it in high until it went out too and then parked it and died. Any ideas? I never had one of these and have no book yet. How do I get at the torque? I tore down the engine and found #2 full of water and pitted some so may need a block and pistons too but haven't got far enough to know what the bore is yet. Are these the same blocks as a 504? Any help saving this old girl would be apreciated.
Thanks, This is a great site. Keep up the good work.

504 diesel jugs & pistons will fit. You can see the torque through the cover under the bottom of the dash support but to work on it other than adjust it, you'll have to split the engine from the bellhousing. You could be lucky & find that you can simply adjust the torque through the hole near where the torque lever goes into the housing. It is covered by a washer with a bolt that works similar to a toggle bolt. You have to push in a pin & turn a ring with notches. Should be able to see with a flashlight through hole after turning engine to get pin in view. Since handle was fastened in forward position, it is likely the clutch was too loose & didn't snap over center with enough force to hold it.

Thanks John: I removed the lock he had on the torque lever and it was hard to snap back and when pushed forward it snapped just like on on a vista does. Is there any way to check out the torque with out the engine running to know if the low is out or would we just have to split it and check everything out by specks, etc. I tore down the engine more and I'd like to know the torque would work before putting it all back together. What bothers me is that when we pulled it in gear and the clutch out with engine stuck nothing even dragged. The clutch feels normal when depressing the pedal so that only leaves the high side of the torque that could be bad or something is broken or unhooked. Any more ideas??
