I HAVE QUITE ABIT OF SLOP IN THE STEERING GEAR BOX ON MY GB. SUGGESTIONS, REBUILDERS? BUSHINGS? INFO APPRECIATED.. (I HAVEN"T HAD THE BOX APART)

Its probably like the box on a UTS. there is an adjustment screw on the back (have to take the box off its mounting bracket to see it) that makes the worm gear and sector pins mate closer.

If its really worn, you can have new sector pins made and hardened and installed.

On one well worn box, an older friend had me grind the back side of the sector pins off, drive them out of the sector arm and re-install them 90 degrees to their original position. This presents an unworn surface to the worm gear, and allowed a little tighter adjustment than was otherwise possible.

It shouldn't be hard to find bushings for the sector shaft. ball bearings for the worm are probably harder to come by. Seals for the sector shaft have never been a problem.

I HAVE THE BREAKDOWN SKETCH IN FRONT OF ME. THERE IS AN ADJUSTMENT SCREW LIKE YOU SAID ILL NEED TO SEE HOW MUCH PLAY THERE IS AT THE BUSHINGS. BUT MY SKETCH DOESN'T SHOW A SECTOR PIN COULD YOU TELL ME WHERE THEY ARE? PERHAPS AT THE KNUCKLE JUST ABOVE THE BOX? THANK'S FOR YOUR REPLY! STEVE

If you have the breakdown sketch, you will see an arm with 2 pins in it that fit the grooves in the worm gear. This is what I would call the sector and the 2 pins in that arm are the sector pins I was refering to.

I don't know if they are removable in all cases, just that I did remove them and turn them 90 degrees on a UTS steering box.
