A few U questions

I've got a friend that owns a U, and is having some trouble with it. I'm going to help him figure it out, but need some help for tune up info.

How do I tell the difference between an all fuel or gas engine (if it doesn't have dual tanks)

What would be the compression in psi for both types?

What are the recommended spark plugs?

Can I get a description or pic of which screws on the carb adjust the idle and load jets?

Thanks,
Brandon

If your buddy's U has the 283A-4 engine (two blocks/heads), and if the heads have the letters "HC" (for high compression) cast on the sides, the tractor is set up for gasoline. I don't know offhand what the compression psi spec is...

Plugs should be Champion W-14 thru W-20 or equivalent. With today's lousy gas the higher numbers (hotter) seem to work best.

Presuming it's got the stock Marvel carburetor, the idle mix adjustment is the smaller screw near the fuel inlet that angles down at about 45 deg. The load jet the larger, knurled thumbscrew near the idle mix screw and angled nearly straight down.

Could you tell me what year this is and what the part number is on the heads? Should start with 10A or GE30 unless this engine has a one four block instead of two two-cyliner blocks. I can get you plugs and compression from this. Throw me a serial number off the tag on the tranny if you think of it.
