Need Carb Kit and Fan Hum Help with Avery A / MM

Can anyone help me locate a Tillotson YC-10A carb rebuild kit, and a fan hub housisng for my 1950 Avery model A. I believe these should be the same parts used by MM on the BF Model when MM bought our Avery in 1951. About the fan hub housing, the gasket material that keeps the hub oil from leaking out of the hub is rotten and it slings all the oil out. Or, advice about replacing the gasket material also greatly appreciated. +Thanks, Royce, Lanesville, IN

Call Bill Williams, 662-728-3747. He got us a carb. kit last summer for an Avery V. (As far as I know, shoud be same kit.) If that doesn't work, contact Zimmerman Oliver Cletrac 717-738-2573. The same engine as Avery A was used in Cletrac and Oliver crawlers.

P.S. Some, if not all MM BFs used a Marvel Schebler carburetor, model TSX 400.

I think if you can get the row of screws that hold the fan housing and fanblade together out, you should be able to renew that gasket. If it was me, I would probably try RTV as a gasket, (The blue stuff) unless it looked like the gasket material thickness was used as a spacer. Then I'd probably just make a gasket out of paper gasket material. Of course, to use the RTV you have to make sure the parts are clean and dry.

Kevin, many thanks for the carb help. I'll call these guys Monday. About the fan hub, it's the shaft rear-end that's slinging oil - - originally had something like a leather gasket or some other goofy material to seal the oil in the hub. Not an easy one, and I'm still puzzled as to how to tackle this one. I dismantled it today. Regards, Royce

I don't think that hub is supposed to be more than about half full of oil.

Kelvin,

You're right about the oil level in the hub - - max is 1/2 full. I'm not having much success. I tried making a seal out of felt, and that didn't hold it tight enough. I then used a small amount of felt, and found an o-ring that would fit snug inside the hub and snug on the shaft. Last night I left it mounted over a coffee can,added some oil, and it all leaked out again. but I don't give up easy, and hopefully I will get some more suggestions from others who have solved this same problem in the past.
