Got a note this morning from my mechanic/cousin who has been rebuilding the engine on my '47 UTS. He tells me that he started it for the first time over the weekend and drove it out of his shop. This tractor was left on a place I bought in Montana and had been sitting out in the weather for about 33 years. I had to put more into parts (block was cracked, manifold rusted out, radiator leaky, tires rotten, grill gone, carb bad, gauges and wiring fried, seat missing)etc. than it will ever be worth, but I resolved when I bought the place to restore it "someday" and didn't want to part it out. I still need to paint it etc. but that will have to wait till I get back in the country and can do it myself.
Thanks to all (especially Ethan B.)for your help.

Happy Holidays to everyone !

Congratulations on getting your tractor running!
I hope that with a paint job it will be worth what you had to put into it and it will be an asset to you.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks Jim,
What something is "worth" is a bit of a slippery concept and in this case has more to do with following through on something I promised to do that what somebody else would pay me for it.
I am in it about $3k which is either a lot (if you price similar tractors) or not so much (if you look at what some other stuff costs and how long it should now last). I have a Ford 8N as well that works fine for lots of chores but I will be glad to have a tractor with some actual HP and heft to do some of the pulling jobs that were too much for the little one. I would have preferred to do the work all myself, and could have saved some $ by doing so, but current career issues make that impossible and I didn't want to leave it sit for a bunch more years till I am retired.
It should be fun to finish up the restoration as I have time !
