U Block

Hello to all,
I finished assembling my U engine yesterday. Had the heads rebuilt and replacement blocks machined. Old blocks were cracked. After putting in the anti freeze the drain plug in the rear block was leaking. When I tried to snug it up it came loose. Luckily, I had a 5 gallon bucket near by. After draining it down and closely checking, the drain hole threads are rotted away. Can anyone recommend a fix? How about a heli coil? Any response will be appreciated. Thanks, Bill

I would drill it to the next pipe fitting size and retap it.

The best fix for this is a helix coil. You can get them at any parts house an the kit come with the proper size drill bit to dril to next size, tap and a helix-coil thread insert. Lock tite the coil in and let dry a day. lightly run a tap inside the coil incase any lock tite seeped through. Dont install your plug till lock tite is dry. This fix is tougher than the original block. Works on any pipe thread or bolt size. good luck.
