i've maybe posted on the wrong site before, i just hauled a General tractor Model GG made by cleveland tractor home today. cleveland was bought by avery and avery by MM, has been setting for 20+ years in a woods, does anyone have rear rims, drive shaft cover and grill? probably need other items as i start taking it apart. any help wood be great. email me privately if you want. The general was made by cletrac and BF Avery bought them out in about 1941,the early Avery A's (1941-1945)had the same grill as the general.
The Avery Collectors club has much information on there website.

Join the group and ask some questions,there are many pictures there also.
The general would be painted the cletrac orange,not red.If its a general it should have a metal serial # plate on the right frame rail close to the rearend.If an Avery A it will be stamped in the top of the right frame rail close to the rearend.

The rear wheels are 24" flat base and the IHC wheels off a A or B will fit. As for the front wheel, the bolt should come out. That is the only part that I haven't had off my General. THe front sheet metal for the General is different than the Avery A. Cleveland did make the Wards Twin Row which was the same as the General. The color is a deep yellow or Clectrac color. The decals, I was able to trace the decal when I sanded my tractor and went to a decal business and they was able to make a set that was as close as any that I have seen.
You don't see many General GG,s at the tractor shows. The National Avery Collectors Assn will have there meeting in Republic, Missouri next September. There should be some there.

For the Serial Number list go to the Research and Info. section on this site. Click on Serial Numbers, Go to Cletrac, then scroll down to GG and click on it. This should give you the information you are looking for. If you haven't yet found your serial # it is located on the frame on the right side near the rear wheel. You will probably have to get under the tractor to see it so be careful.

i took the rear rims off today, rusted away. tried to take off the front wheel, does the bolt suppose to just slide out or am i missing something, don't want to break anything. also where do i find out what year this is and the production?

I bet the rear rims are shared by Farmall A, B, or Cub, Or an allis B.
Does yours have a 1-wheel front with the cast iron 'star' wheel?

I would check with Bill Williams 662-728-3747 for the driveshaft cover. He may also have a grille, don't know if he does early Averys and Cletrac or not.
If its anything like the MM V, a sheet metal shop should be able to make a drive shaft cover, if you have to.
Another place is Zimmerman Oliver/Cletrac. Sorry, I don't know their phone number. I know they have grilles for the later style Averys/Oliver OC3s, but don't know about early Cletracs/Averys.

[As far as I know early Averys used the same grille. I'm thinking B.F. Avery made the wheel tractors for Cletrac and then took up the tractor line itself when cletrac cancelled it or folded whichever.]

The reproduction grilles I have seen don't have the rolled bars like the original grilles had. They're flat. My first thought is to fix your grille if there is any way possible.

There is also a B.F. Avery website. If you don't find it with a search for B.F. Avery, try searching for TRU-DRAFT or TRUE-DRAFT.

Cleveland Tractor made the General for B. F. Avery. When World War 2 got going good Cletrac could not keep up with orders for military Cletracs for the Goverment. In fact John Deere also made some military Cletracs. As a result of that since Avery was the largest Cletrac General customer the line was sold to Avery. There are about 3 different changes in the sheet metal. Questions?

i have a 1941, i'm confused on the color of the tractor too. right now the wheels, draw bar, engine and transmission are red and the rest is grey. is that right?
