Bought a 1949 UTU today. Some quick questions:

The block is numbered 194900451, but the chasis is numbered 194900519, is this common?

What do I need to put check valves on the hyd lines?

Looking for a shield for the pto, any parts available in Iowa?

The engine has two heads, how much less hp than one with a solid head? Two heads better than one or no? :)

That check valve you need is a "pilot operated cross-port check valve" (among other names) it goes in the circuit between the control valve in the reservoir and the hydraulic cylinder. It will also have both hoses from the control valve and 2 hoses from the cylinder attached to it.
I'm told that Welter's Farm Supply in Verona MO has them 417-498-6496. You can probably also get them from a good hydraulic supplier.

The straight block engine was the forerunner of the split block. The split block engine has many more options for compression which makes it more desireable. Also many more parts from the more modern engines fit the split block making it into a bolt on performance engine, kinda like a 265 Chevy or 260 Ford.

Where in Iowa do you want to travel to, to find this PTO cover you are looking for. I think I have an extra one. It may have one corner where a bolt hole is that is broke I think. $15.00---N.E. Iowa

Yes, it is very common the motor and the transmission each have they're own serial number. You only need to put the check valves in if you don't want to use a MM hydraulic cylinder. As far as the heads go it depends on if its gas or propane, lp will have a little more.

At one time there was an MM boneyard in Red Cloud NE. Dont know if it is still there. Covered a city block or more.
