I have a '67 Jet Star 3 Super that has a mid-1980's Delco-Remy alternator (has internal regulator). I seem to go through alot of condensors, one every 100 hours or so. I suspect something to do with the igniton lines.

A few years ago when I converted a Farmall from 6 volt to 12 volt, I was told to put a resistor in the ignition line that goes to the coil. Supposedly all coils are 6 volt. Any body know anything about this? I think without the resistor a coil would get hot. The MM coil does not, however. Thanks in advance.

We solve that by installing an electronic ignition, no more problem, sell them here if you chose. Dale

not all coils are 6 volt, and your correct, if your putting 12 to a 6 it will get hot and eventually burn out the coil. i had one do this once and found that my regulator in the alternator was running at 15.5 inplace of 14.7 as it was suppose to, and further investigation i found a bad ground wire that was corroded and thus caused my alternator to put out more. have you tried a different coil? i have had coils that go bad and burn out resitors as well.

sounds like you have a 12 volt system and a 6 volt coil get a 12 volt coil and resistor from any parts store put the resistor in line on the ing side of the coil

Most distrubiters use 6 volts and you can buy a six volt coil but if you have a 12 volt battery a resister is required between the battery and coil. You can purchase a 12 volt coil with an internal resister that drops the output to 6 volts. With a 12 volt coil and battery use a resister between the coil and distrubiter.
