Engine change for UB

I have a 1953 UB and I am wanting to replace the 283B4 with a 403 cid from a 1953 MM G. It appears that this can be done, but what needs to be changed in order for the starter and anything else to line up.

I'm not sure about that-I'd have to check crankcase part numbers, flywheels, and starters.

When I installed a 403-4A power unit engine in a UTS diesel, I had to have an adapter made to fit the U pilot bushing in the power unit flywheel The starter ring gear was 1" larger than a gasoline U, so I had to get a 403 starter, and grind out the U transmission housing to fit it in place.

Some guys are putting the 403 blocks and crank in the 283 (U) crankcase and using the 283 flywheel and starter.

Also, you'll have to use the 283 water return manifold to the radiator. if you want to use a thermostat, you'll have to relocate it to the side of the manifold, because it interferes with the hood. You may have to fabricate a radiator inlet if it is offset, like U's are.

The crankcases are the same. It should all match up except if you use the G's blocks the hood might give you some problems.
