I have a 51 u thinking of building a puller out of it. I also have a 403 cub." lp gb parts tractor . Have been tould I can put the gb engine on the u will this work and what do I need to do? thanks John

the gb engine is apart the engine on the u is good runing lp that may not need to be rebuilt if used for a parada tractor. thinking of engine swap and make a puller out the u with lots of hp and a parada tracor out of the gb hope you don't think i'm crazy thanks John

You can bolt the U flywheel to the 403 and it will work fine. A 6 volt U starter on 12 volts will spin it over good. If the GB LP is a complete tractor I would find a 403 power unit to use instead,(preserve the GBLP) If you advertise for one on this site or the MM site you should be able to find one.

The U ring gear is smaller than the GB and the starter wont engage. You can put the ring gear off the G on a late U flywheel but you will still need to grind the rear end housing to fit the larger ring gear.This is the reason for the adapter housing in a G or GB. If you had a GTC 340 cid it uses a UB crankcase and starter and would work just fine in a U.

If the engine is complete and you just want to bolt it in you will have to grind the inside of the transmission housing out to accomadate the bigger ring gear on the GB. You will also need to change the water inlet on the water pump housing. If it is apart or you are going to rebuild it use the U crankcase flywheel and starter. You can also change the front water pump housing so the water inlet lines up to the radiator.

All depends on the starter type. GB used a UB type crankcase I think and may not require grinding. Maybe backwards here. I am installing an old power unit in mune. It requires grinding to accomodate the larger ring gear of the old motor bell housing.

Our GTC motor went in our UB with no grinding, however with the U and a GB motor you may have to just like the other fella told you.
