Does anyone know the oil seal number on the rear tire axel shaft on a 1956 445 ? Thanks

I understand they are no longer available. But, if you pull the old one out and take it to most any good ag/farm parts store, you can get it matched up. also anyone who has seal manual, such as Mogul, National or Federal, can take the measurements and match them to a good number. Most of these books have a universal measurement table in the front of the book.

Is your 445 a utility (low, with ford type front axle) or a Universal?

Sorry it took so long to get back.
That seal crosses to National 417344.

2 things:

1. To get the seal out, you have to drive the outer race of the bearing out of the housing. (For me it was no big deal-the race was no good anyway.)

2. The seal runs on a sleeve that is either press-fit or shrunk on the axle. Mine was worn out, and they are hard to find and expensive when you do.

The other thing-After running the tractor (its only been around the barn about once since I installed the seals) I saw some oil/grease drops on the right tire. I don't know if the seal is failing to seal, or if its just a little that worked through that sleeve on the axle. (its open most of the way on the bottom where the keyway goes under it.)

I don't mind waiting for good info. Your one of the only people that doens't seem to mind helping out someone. You don't need to apoligize for taking too much time.
I'll see what I can do with this info. I'm a little afraid to get too involved but I sure would like too stop this leak. I'll look at it this week.
