You would have to put gas or LP heads, and intake manifold on it and remove the center head bolts. The diesel crank, rods and pistons are very heavy, way heavier than you need for a gas engine.

A diesel does not have an opening to run a governor in the crankcase. Plus your cam would be way off. It would be easier and much cheaper to go get an old 605 power unit. They are good compression and horsepower and a dime a dozen.

Ethan
p.s. An 800 would work, but vore expensive!

Mopower I will take 3 dozen of 605's I have never seen any very cheap. I do run 1 in my Puller. Real Pulling tractors do not run governers so the 605 crankcase is not any problem, also we buy cams that are designed to work with all the changes such as RPM levels 4 to 5000 rpm are common. To put it plane old MOlines make good pulling tracors with the main bearings being the weakest link. But do it anyway!! Think about a complete engine package before you start.

I didn"t know what type of pulling this GVI would be pulling in. It is real nice to see a MM running as strong as your 4-5000 rpm. I pull speed limit classes so maybe a 605 will end up in my GBD, but more likely to do a 585. Probably fairly stock RPM. There are a few 605 around, but not sure what "cheap" is. My rules might prevent a diesel to gas conversion.

Change head to LP get a big intake, carb and starter you will need for extra compression from diesel pistons. See my reply on G1000 puller also

Why would flat top diesel pistons have that much more comp than the lp pistons with little or no dish in them? They came either way.

4232 heads and flat tops should give you around 11.5:1, big starters are sure nice when that motor is warm.

4232's on a 425 6 cyl with flat tops would give you around 7.2:1 and 145-165 lbs compression. Source: MM cylender head specification chart.

I know where a diesel is coming up for sale, the only way I'm intested is to make a puller out of it. But the pulling rules around here you have to have a woking governer.I dont know how well a diesel would pull.Wanted a lp or maybe gas. Maybe could swap engines without to much trouble. Just needed help to make up my mind.

If it runs good, pull it without doing anything. low gear or speed limet class you may not need more power. There are easy upgrades for the diesel: blocks and pistons from a G-705,G-1000 This gives you 504 cubes. with a biger intake you can get 110+ hp pretty easy.

I have a 504" G705 complete and together, sounds like that might solve your changing parts problems. It would make a good starter Pulling tractor for 1st gear or RPM pulling just like it is. It needs tires other than that you could go pulling quick and CHEAP and kick BUTT.

MO Man,

If you"d like some pretty affordable 605 motors I can get you as many as you need.
