Seals on brake splined shaft on a 445

How difficult is it to change the seals on the shaft that the brake dics is mounted on a 445. The brake disc is saturated with oil leaking from this shaft. Am I looking for trouble? How about parts, brake disc,springs and seals.Can I still get those parts?

Joe,

Wendell Everett @ 740-922-3335 can help you with parts for your brakes.

It is likely that the bearings behind the inner brake plates will need adjustment to prevent the new seals from being damaged. The shims that adjust the bearings also adjust the clearance on the ring and pinion. You should remove the hydraulic system and top cover so you can adjust it all properly according to specs in an I&T or dealers shop manual.

Get the shims correct before installing the new seals in the plates!

When installing the seals over the splined shaft, I find a thin plastic bottle that is a little too small for the shaft. Heat it to allow it to strech. Make sure you can get it off the shaft before sliding the seal plate in place.
