Factory HD800?

I've seen it mentioned several times now on the Pulling Board that M-M installed the HD800 in tractors at the factory. I'm certainly no Minnie expert, but my understanding of the subject was that no M-M tractors got the big engine right from the factory. I'm well aware that many tractors were repowered with HD800s at the aftermarket/dealership level, even when brand new, but did any leave the plant with that engine already installed? My thought is no. Can anyone verify this and reference the source of the info? I guess I'm saying that I'm not interested in heresay, but am looking for the actual facts.

Moline orginally built about 30 HD800's with the small bellhousing to fit in a tractor for dealers to installed in G1350's and A4T's tomeet the demand for more power. If the engine taken out was new, it could be returned to the factory for credit. After seeing how easy it was to put the 800 in tractors it was deceided to start putting them in at the factory on a special order. The serial number log book shows 128 small bell 800's were made with 72 installed in A4T's/2655's at the factory. The rest were shipped to the field for dealer installation. It is possible that a few 2WD tractors had an 800 installed at the factory. I have seen the serial number logs for the A4T's/2655's at the Floyd County Museum in Charles City. I did not have time to research the 2WD records.

I am the 2nd owener of an A4T with an 800. A mechanic at the dealer when tractor was orginally sold says that the tractor came from the factory with the 800 in it. The serial number log indicates that it was one of the tractors that had an 800 installed at the factory.

I worked for MM/White from 1968 -1974. MM had an A4T with factory installed 800 at the 1971 Farm Progress Show near Vinton, Ia. They used in the plowing demonstration.

The serial number list i saw showed around 460 Small bell engines being produced. I know my dads dealership installed 13 of them and the Dealer in lebanon IN installed 12 in The A4Ts. Frosty Kirkum had the first A4T in IN with an 800 it had no cab and was quite a machine i still have some black and white photos of it in the field the day they deliverd it.

In four wheel drives yes, but I knew about those. The two wheel drives I am still waiting to be convinced of. Not saying that it may not have happened but still waiting for some documentation.

Takes alot to convince you dont it? If you look in MM published serial number lists the small bell 800 has its own serial number designation and is listed as the engine installed in the A4T and the G1350. Dont know what else to tell you but you will probably only believe what you want to anyway.

I take a bit of convincing at times, that I will admit. But we are a long way from 800's being installed by the factory or factory authorized in GBD's, G-VI's, G1000's, etc.

I do not believe Solid Junk ever ran a 800 HD because of the rules in place at the time. It did run 800 heads to lower the compression and improve air flow. Lyle Hall has run an 800 in recent times but has gone back to 504 crankcase due to the limited number of 800 components.

I will ask Dave to be certain about this the next time he stops over to visit.

NTPA had no cubic inch limit in super stock pulling until the early-mid 90's.So the Solid Junk G-1000 could have run any size MM engine that he wanted.Lyle Hull did run an 800 in the early 90's but then the NTPA rules were changed to 650 cubes maximum mainly because of his tractor.Right now I believe Hulls are running a 585 took up to 650.

John Cespedes in Ohio currently pulls the Fools Gold MM G-1000 Pro Stock on gas.His tractor has pulled for years and NTPA grandfathered him in at 800 cubes even though the class was limited to 680.I heard that he was going down to a 605 so he could turn more RPM's.Its hard to turn an 800 over 4000 rpms.

I talked to Dave Stangle tonight and he says the biggest motor ever ran in Solid Junk was a 504 punched out to 740 cubes. It only ran breifly because they could not hold it together. One time it broke so bad that the only thing holding the crank in was the fan belt. The next season cubic inch limits were imposed and Ron built a nitro burning 504. Shortly after that nitro was out lawed as well. Dave says one body could compete with the cheap horse power they were making. The NTPA claimed nitro was too dangerous. Solid Junk did run 800 heads as I remebered.

So how many HP & RPMs was Dave Stangle running? I called about a OLIVER 2655 in WI. with a 800ci LP it is Lyle Hulls.Aron Hull said they are running 615ci in there super stock & the only thing MM is the crank & lower housing above crank in the whole tractor. (rear end is truck rear) O they want $11,500.00 for 2655! TOO much for me.

If I remember it right??Stangle drove solid Junk but it belonged to Greg Herriot and Ron Perry. If it held together it was first, if it blew, only parts of it were first.
