Well bear with me because this might get kinda long. Well i'll start off a little about myself here i guess, Im 17 years old, Im goin to be a senior in high school and am in FFA. I have restored some Deeres for ffa and am now moving to my favorites, The Minnies. Well my grandpa has 6 of them, 4 of them were down at another farm where his brother lived before he died. They have all sat there for over 20 years, the last one ran in 1983, and that was the 1966 G-1000. We were too afraid to try to pull start it because we thought the engine was probley froze up so we pulled it to his farm, then we found out it was free when we jacked up the tire and turned it. So we pulled it to see if it would start, we pulled it about the distance of a football field and she took right off, I dont know how it happened with 21 year old diesel fuel but it did, that thing ran sooo smooth, when i got off of it and my grandpa walked up to me he said to me "these minnie's just never did seem to wanna die", his face just lit up when he climbed up on that tractor, just as he did for many thousands of hours. I plan on restoring that tractor, his GB on propane that has sat for longer but the engines free on it, and his 1937 ZTU. But like he said and i know many of you have said too, These Minnies just never seem to wanna die. If i get a chance here and get my scannaer working i'll post pictures of what they look like here.

It's awesome to fire up a tractor that's sat for so long and hear it purr away. Congratulations and good luck with the next one. The GB LP is so beefy looking and I hope to have one someday. My brother describes its looks as "dripping with power." Have fun.

Diesel keeps a lot better than gasoline, so it's not too surprising that it started. If a diesel has air, compression and fuel at the right time, it's going to start regardless of how long it's been sitting. I would recommend draining the fuel tank of any accumulated water and changing the engine oil, engine oil filter and fuel filters at the earliest opportunity, as simple condensation can put a lot of moisture in crankcases and fuel tanks over that period of time.
