Oil Filter on MM R

Would anyone have a picture or description of the parts and or assembly for the oil filter that lies horizontal at the front of the tractor under the pan? This one being restored does not have a washer under the thru bolt on filter. Also does it reguire a spring against filter? The replacement filter came with a rubber gasket that did not seem to fit properly in groove either.Thank's much fellows.

Don't have a picture, but they are supposed to have a copper washer under the head of that thru-bolt. If its missing it will drip oil. Sometimes it will ooze even if it has a copper washer.

I use NAPA 1108 filters and the gasket has always fit the groove in the oil pump housing.

Both the tractors (Z & R)I bought out of Pennsylvania had a different filter in them. those filters has rubber grommets at both ends where the filter went through. I don't remember their make or part number, though.

An 1108 has metal sleeves on both ends that fit snugly on the shoulders of the thru-bolt and the nut-like affair that threads up that bolt into the other end.

No spring is used. That nut-like affair holds the filter in place.

Thank's much Kelvin I will check into that at NAPA. The one we have does not have the nut deal you refer to but will find out. Thank you again for info. By the way did the o'rings come with filter or were they extra? You refer to rubber washer, were they sort of a flat washer that sat at either end?

The rubber washer is flat and fits the groove in the oil pump. It is supplied with NAPA 1108 filters.(usually-I got one that didn't have it, but re-used the old washer.)

The filters in the tractors from PA (got both tractors from same place at same time.) had more of a grommet affair that sealed the filter to the bolt and was actually fastened to the filter itself.

Thanks Kevin, I know exactly what you mean about the seal being in each end of the filter as part of it. I thought it should be. Otherwise the filter would serve no purpose, as the oil would bypass and not be filtered.

Look at my previous post-I said the correct filter-a NAPA 1108-has sleeves that fit the shoulder on the bolt and a shoulder on the nut that threads on the other end of the bolt, and that nut is threaded up the bolt until it holds the filter firmly in place. This seals the filter to that bolt for all practical purposes and oil flowing up the center of the bolt has to go through the filter.

If you don't have the nut, Wendell Everett 740-922-3335 can get you one.
