O-Ring trouble, complaint, gotta vent!!!!!

Well I got my steering all back together on the 602 and one of the same orings that was leaking is leaking again. I thought the oring that I got AT AGCO looked a little slim but it mic'd OK. My shaft it not galled or grooved but the darn things leaks again, and there is no excessive wear to blame. Now I have to take the gear box off AGAIN, disassemble, and try to find a better oring. Man has the entire world of manufacturing went to hell? cant we get anything manufactured to spec anymore? where could these orings be supplied to AGCO from? no doubt the cheapest possible(made in some far away land). It literally hurts me that nothing is being made in the most capable and advanced country on Earth anymore.

I pulled a part out of a agco box saterday and it said made in china right on it

KX, recently I had my tele-flow rebuilt. The fella doing it, Randy Hawk from IN, used something new to me, called Quad-rings. They are like an or ring with 4 small outer rings molded into it. It's an odd site. Don't know where he gets them, but might ask around on them. You get same size as old ring, but it's slightly plumper because of those edges. He says they are great.

Just a warning I forget the exact ratio but the most effective o-ring (and probably the original)does not fill the groove it is only about 2/3 the size of the groove if used in this manner

Increasingly, I have noticed that many cars sold in the USA are made in the USA. Unfortunately whether it is Honda (good cars) or GM (some more good cars), parts that can be made outside the US are made in China and Mexico. The cars are only assembled here. My Dodge Stratus R/T is really a Mitsubishi Eclipse with Dodge plastic. It was made by Mitsubishi Motors in Ohio. Toyota is a quality product too. Honda provides a lot of good jobs in the US, but you never know where parts are coming from these days. The only fault I would find is Union wages vs. Communist slave wages all competing in the world manufacturing market. I guess you can see why I like good old USA Molines! Maybe old seals and things were primative compared to today, but they were used and abused and still do their duty in old crusty 50 year old tractors!

Ok, I'll respond. Be careful, I've had similar things happen to me and utimately found that I was at fault. Example, I replaced the rear seal in my Case 400 last winter. Removed the old nice thick rawhide original seal with the new slim neopreme flimsy seal. The thing leaked badly when I was done. I cursed the new seal. When I took the machine apart again I found that I had pushed the oil pan gasket in when I installed the seal retainer.

I do agree though that America has gone astray somewhere. Recently bought a used car (Honda) for my daughter at the advice of the best mechanic I know. It is sad when your mechanic, a regular American guy, tells you to buy foreign. Since having bought the Honda, I've paid more attention to the cars on the road. The American auto industry IS in trouble.

The Honda is made here in west central Ohio with at last count I had at least 15 other parts suppliers here also with 90% of content made here in Ohio and a lot of the cars made here are exported to Japan because they are not made anyplace but here. The Honda Group has more employes here in Ohio than Ford and Their engine plant is 35 mile from Honda engine plant at Anna, lots of neighbors work at both plants

worst vehicles I ever owned were japanese. Period. As for honda's they are the master of relabeling. they use knocked down starters and alternators, not to mention radiators and call it American. In my book American made is not just assembled in USA. There was once an article in newsweek magazine that profiled Honda and there so called American cars. when they were done tracking all the foriegn pieces down the car was only 15% American made. Thats what I expect from a country that bombed Pearl Harbor.

Maybe so, but what about German cars? Mercedes, Volkswagon etc. Last time I checked they were not too shabby and I don"t believe Hitler had any hand in building them. Don"t get me wrong, I"m no fan of the current German government leaders, but some mighty fine engineering has come from that country!

You have a great point. But the germans are not here saying made in USA when they are definately not. The japanese unions make sure they get as much of the car share as American tariffs and trade will allow. You can't blame the japanese for trying but you can blame the short sited americans for buying. When the Japanese made junk and honda was junk once. they didn't give up and buy GM. They fixed their junk with help of a certain American's ideas. When we sold our hawker business jet in Japan (at fuji heavy industries). Every car in the parking lot was subaru. If they won't buy them why should any one else. Americans should have that kind of dedication.
