I am doing a valve job on a friends Moline Universal J. However, we dont have a service manual so I am lacking some specs. Does anyone know the proper torque for the head nuts? How about the valve lash.? Am also wondering about how to correctly time the mag. (So I dont break a wrist!) Thru the flywheel timing port, I can see a mark that says "tdc1" and a mark that says "fire" Do I time it to fire number 1 at "fire", which is before top dead center, or at "tdc1", which appears to be top dead center? Or am I all wrong altogether? Thanks in advance

I don't have head bolt torque.
Valve lash is .008 intake, .010 exhaust (hot).

I'm dumb when it comes to magnetos: It looks like on my J that there's no way to advance or retard the timing on the base-mount magneto. (Its supposed to be a Fairbanks RV4(B). Although the B doesn't appear on the case of mine. I was thinking that to advance or retard the spark would probably require a change in the impulse.

Now what the book says: "loosen magneto coupling clamp and turn magneto by hand until spark occurs at No. 1 wire (front plug on engine) when mark "D.C. 1" on flywheel registers with mark in opening of bell housing.

I didn't think my coupling is adjustable. Looks like I'll have to look at my J again.

Firing order is 1,2,4,3.
