This is my problem. About 3 months ago when I put the tractor in second gear and started to take off the tractor would hesistate and then take off. It felt like it might be slipping. Over the next couple of weeks it got worst until it stopped working in 2nd all together. I started taking off in first and over a few weeks it began doing the same thing as the second gear was doing and then it also stopped working. Next it did the same thing in reverse and it stopped working also. Basically it would not move in forward or reverse. When I put it in any gear it would kinda of lurch forward and do nothing. This happened both in high and low range in either position of the ampli-torc,

I thought it was the clutch so I replaced the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and the rear seal. Once this was completed and everything was bolted together I tried it again and it was doing the same thing as before. I adjusted the ampli-torc to 35 ft. lbs. and it snaps into place like it should.

The tractor will now move forward only in low range-first gear. It does appear to me that it may be slipping a little but it is hard to tell for sure. But it will drive in low range-first gear. It still will not work in any other gear including reverse. I get the same lurch forward and then nothing.

If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks for being there!

HH

Harold I would bet you need new a sprag clutch and the ears or tabs are broken off the ampli-torque drive plates.

Harold, you need to determine if the shaft(s) that need to be in motion indeed are. I would begin by finding a way to view the differntial in the back or the transmission input shaft in the front. Something isn't turning or you'd be in motion. I had a Farmall 340 that just stopped under load. It would move under no load. The problem was a broked piece in the differential. I initially thought clutch or torque but after eliminating those as possible causes, I reomoved the brake covers and observed that in gear and running, the left side pinion was turning but the right side was not. Obviously a differntial problem. Keep us posted.
