I am in need of a starter for my MM UTS that I just bought. I am looking for one that works, nothing special. The rebuilt ones that I have found are kinda pricey. The Delco number on the starter is "1107977". Mine broke the armature and the nose cone. I do not know what other application it fits. If anyone has one that they will sell me it will be perfect. Or If anyone can steer me in the right direction that would be great too. Thanks William

The main difference in your starter (1107977) and the starter used in older U's is the drive. Your starter drive will probably have more than the 10 teeth the older starters had. (It may also have differences in the field windings, but that's not quite as important.)

You can't just install an older (1107905) starter because the teeth on the drive won't engage your ring gear because it has to be slightly smaller to accommodate the drive with more teeth.

If your drive is O.K. you can probably install it in an 1107905 and get going.

2 other ideas:

call Everetts: 740-922-3335, Welters: 417-498-6496, or Balcom 1-800-658-2309.

Or you can find someone parting out an older tractor, get the starter and flywheel (with different ring gear) from it and put them in yours.

William - The U tractor starter is fairly common and is found on many different tractors. You might try your local starter/alternator shop. The shop near me has been able to provide good armatures, nose cones, etc. for our Farmall, Oliver and MM tractors - at a price much less than rebuilt.
