Questions on a 1938 ZTS, cylinder head

Hello, I have just aquired an early ZTS, 1938, its my 1st minney mo. and the front cylinder head on the right front side is cracked and leaks out water. Is this repairable? or for that matter does antone still make this new or where would be good places to look for a good used one? Thanks for any help/ advice anyone can provide.....I'm sure I'll have many more questions as I progress further into it...OH the mag has no spark. I know its a fairbanks-morse but not sure what model... Regards JAy

John, I assume since it is a 1938, that the heads are the earliest type. The casting #'s on each head are RE101-A Also, thr brass tag on the block Reads: 3 5/8 x 4 1/2.... Model "RE" .....Engine Serial# 47205. WEll, I dont have it running yet , the mag has no spark but I intend to do light to medium work with it .... Hay rake, Drag, Run elevator, haul small wagons.....I dont do any tractor pulls....Thanks for any assistance. Regards , Jay

The casting # you gave is for the cylinder block, the head lays across the top on the right side of the engine, should have a RE226? casting #. The blocks are all the same on the R, Z, & ZA, the later ones having a 10A???? casting #. One of these days, I'll post a picture of all the cyl heads except the RE226E, which Matt Gall has & I don't, on the MM pic page of this site.

What is the casting # on the cracked head? IF it's the head tat's cracked, I probably have a used headsitting around here, would like the casting # and what you intend to use the tractor for. There are at least 7 different heads I know of. [email protected]

That cylinder block is not available new, unless you're mighty fortunate to find one New Old Stock.

You can probably get one used.

Or, if the crack is external, you can clean what you've got-assuming that everything else about that block is O.K.-and patch the crack with J-B weld. I've even patched 2 inside the rocker arm gallery.
