Looking for insight/experience with these big MM engines, 585 cu. in. as used in G-1355. There may be one available nearby, but I'd like to be able to get 200+ hp out of it for pulling, not for farming. Can one get this with just a pump adjustment? Did M&W ever make a turbo kit for these engines that might help? What rpms can one safely run in short bursts, and is the 5-main design a reason for concern? Thanks for any advice.

In response to Shep's question, there's no web sight that I know of and I don't know any place to buy M&W parts. M&W went out of business approx. 15 years ago(that's a guess). My father and I built that tractor in 1979-80. He was a M&W dealer at the time. We bought the turbo at that time and a year later we bought a spare. I have since put the spare on a White 2-150 running approx. 225 HP with stock head and fuel pump, but turned up all the way. The bearings went out one time in the M&W turbo charger in the Oliver, back in the 1990's. It's a very durable turbo charger. I only use the Oliver for pulling but the White is used mainly for farming and pulled in the stock from the farm classes. And to Bill, I stand corrected it is a 4 main bearings not a 5. It was bedtime when I responded and I guess I was sleeping on the job. Sorry!

I have an M&W 3" turbo on an Oliver 2155 with a 585 motor running approx. 325-350 HP, but 5 main block won't handle anymore power. It either will blow the crank out the bottom or the heads off the top. It's a 45 head in a Rosamaster fuel pump. Pulling we can make the 10,000 lb. class with a narrow front end. 200 HP is easy to make. I hope the info helps.
